Everyone has heard of destination weddings, and obviously honeymoons – but how many of you have heard about the growing trend of destination proposals? I don’t know about you, but my Facebook has been filling up with more and more photos of romantic proposals while on vacation. So, are you planning on popping the question and want to do it in the perfect place? Here’s a list of some of the most beautiful and romantic places in the world that will guarantee a “yes” for planning your romantic Europe itinerary.
Venice, Italy
When you think romance in Venice, I’m sure gondolas come to mind. Plan the perfect Italian vacation and a romantic experience with your significant other: Buy some roses and bring along a bottle of amazing Italian wine. The stunning Baroque and Renaissance buildings, along with the beautiful old bridges, topped with a genuine Italian gondola driver dressed in the hat and vest will work together to create the setting for a picture-perfect proposal.
Neuschwanstein Castle, Germany
The sign of a perfect romantic story is one that ends with “happily ever after.” Plan the perfect fairy-tale proposal on your trip to Germany in the Neuschwanstein Castle. To reach the castle, you travel uphill in a horse-drawn carriage – it doesn’t get more romantic than that! This castle is so picture-perfect that it was the inspiration for Sleeping Beauty’s castle. Begin your happily ever after in one of the most beautiful castles in the world.
Charles Bridge, Prague
Prague is one of the most romantic cities in the world, with no shortage of great places to propose. From the Castle to the Old Town and plenty in between, my favorite place (and in my opinion, the most romantic) is the Charles Bridge. Spend the day immersed in history, enjoying this incredible city. You simply can’t miss out on this perfect location when planning your romantic Europe itinerary. Finish at dusk on the Charles Bridge, when the bridge will finally be less crowded, and watch the city lights turn on. The lit up castle across the river will set the perfect mood for you to ask the question.
London Eye, England
The happiness that comes from getting engaged will make you feel on top of the world. What better way to enhance that feeling than proposing from the top of the famous London Eye? For a more expensive option, when planning your UK trip, you can actually make advance arrangements which include champagne in a private pod where you can propose high above the city. If you don’t want your special someone to figure out the surprise, and you know that a public proposal is preferred, then wait in line with everyone else and wait until you get to the top to ask. I’m sure the rest of the ride will turn into a celebration with the other travelers.
Lake Bled, Slovenia
17th Century chapel enveloped in romantic legend? Check. Impossibly blue lake? Check. Surrounding mountainous landscape? Check. Lake Bled has all of the features to create the most perfectly, romantically, beautifully picturesque, perfect place imaginable. These reasons and more make Lake Bled the perfect place to ask your partner the most important question of your lives. Lake Bled is truly a “must” for the most romantic Europe itinerary!
Niederhorn, Switzerland
There is no shortage of breathtaking romantic views in Switzerland. Located near the charming lakeside town of Interlaken is the stunning peak, the Niederhorn, which is a must-see when planning your Switzerland itinerary. Take the cable car up to 1,963 meters, where you and your loved one will be greeted by expansive views of the surrounding Alps and the lakes below. Explore the top of the mountain where there are reclining chairs in which you can relax and admire the view – the perfect location for popping the question before heading back down the mountain, either by cable car or by scooters that you can rent.
Trevi Fountain, Rome
No trip to Rome ever feels complete, and each visit will leave you wanting to see more of this ancient city. According to legend, throwing a coin into the Trevi fountain will ensure your return to Rome. What could be a more of a romantic gesture than throwing a coin into the fountain with your loved one, ensuring that you will return together? This special moment will be made even more special if you use it as the time to “pop the question.” Just know that the fountain is a huge tourist destination and will probably be crowded at all hours of the day, so if you do propose here, your moment will be celebrated with the dozens of strangers around you, which to some will add to the romance!
